Facts About E10

  • composed of 10% ethanol and 90% gasoline.
  • can be used in all cars with no modifications.
  • is available at more than half of the nation’s gas stations and convenience stores.
  • has been certified by the Environmental Protection Agency to reduce carbon monoxide emissions by up to 30%.
  • adds to the nation’s fuel supply, helping to reduce dependency on foreign oil.
  • provides higher horsepower than unleaded gasoline and virtually identical fuel mileage.
  • is one of the easiest ways you can help reduce air pollution.
  • is compatible in small engines such as outboard motors, lawnmowers, chainsaws and snowmobiles.
  • burns cleaner and helps reduce engine residue and dissolve injector deposits left behind by other fuels.
  • reduces carbon monoxide and hydrocarbon tailpipe emissions.
  • absorbs moisture in fuel lines and keeps gasoline flowing, even in the coldest weather.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is ethanol?

Ethanol is “ethyl alcohol,” 200-proof grain alcohol. Fuel-grade ethanol is blended with gasoline to make a finished motor fuel. The drivers of the Indy Car® Series rely on ethanol’s power for optimal performance.

What is ethanol made of?

Ethanol is made from corn and can also be made from other crops including wheat, barley, mil/sorghum and potatoes.

How is ethanol made?

Ethanol is produced by taking the starch or sugar portion of corn and fermenting it. The fermented starch is distilled into alcohol. Excess water is removed, resulting in very pure (200 proof) ethyl alcohol (ethanol).

Will my vehicle run on ethanol -blended fuel?

Yes, all vehicles are capable of using a blend of up to 10% ethanol. GIANT’s E10 blend is 10% ethanol and 90% unleaded gasoline. It is the most common ethanol sold to motorists. Since the 1980s, all automakers cover up to 10% ethanol under warranty. No engine modifications are necessary to use E10. In fact, E10 is a cleaner burning fuel than straight gasoline.

Will my car perform in the same way?

Ethanol-blended fuel performs in much the same way as conventional gasoline, and surpasses regular gasoline in key performance categories. All auto manufacturers approve fuels enriched with up to 10% ethanol and recommend them for their clean burning benefits.

Will ethanol reduce air pollution?

There is a significant reduction in both carbon monoxide and hydrocarbon tailpipe emissions when ethanol-blended fuel is used in automobiles. According to the Department of Energy, ethanol-blended fuels reduced CO2-equivalent greenhouse gas emissions by 7.8 million tons in 2005, which is the equivalent of removing the annual greenhouse gas emissions of over 1 million automobiles from the road.

Can E10 be used in small engines such as boats, lawnmowers or chainsaws?

Yes.
